Steve Hofmeyr In Hot Water Again
Steve Hofmeyr In Hot Water Again: Hofmeyr was scheduled to give a talk on the future of Afrikaners in South Africa at a restaurant in The Hague in the Netherlands today but was turned away once Café Dudok Den Haag was made aware of his racial views. Johan de Villiers, a member of the African-European Indaba – a community of Africans living in Europe – alerted the restaurant to Hofmeyr’s provocative views on race in South Africa. This subsequently saw the restaurant distancing itself from Hofmeyr and cancelling his appearance at the venue. Hofmeyr has become synonymous with racial debates, often on social media.
The restaurant apologised for associating with Hofmeyr, saying it wasn’t aware of the controversy surrounding him. Last year Pick n Pay and Jaguar Land Rover South Africa decided not to renew their sponsorship of the Afrikaans is Groot concerts following comments by Hofmeyr. “We as Dudok have always taken a stance against discrimination and racism.”
