Continued Poor Discipline within EMPD under MMC Chauke
Continued Poor Discipline within EMPD under MMC Chauke – According to answers included in the question paper provided at the November Council Meeting, it is clear that no real action has been taken to ensure discipline within the EMPD by Community Safety MMC, Cllr Vivienne Chauke.
In response to the latest set of questions I submitted enquiring about EMPD members with criminal records, it appears that MMC Chauke is still using the very same excuse she used the last time. Being that the State Security Agency has not yet completed their vetting process of EMPD officials and allowing certain Metro Police Officers to get away with various crimes and offences. In a previous set of answers, I noticed that yet another officer, supposedly in the Benoni area, is being investigated for a handful of offences; six cases of corruption, assault, murder and failing to hand in confiscated goods.
Very confusing is the fact that MMC Chauke states in the same set of answers that vetting did, in fact, take place in previous Council terms and that “ALL members are vetted prior to them being appointed”. If that is the case, then why are there individuals currently serving in the EMPD that have, either entered the Metro Police Department with criminal records or have committed crimes while in the Department?
Another example of corruptible EMPD officers surfaced just this week when officials tried to bribe a heavy vehicle driver in the Alberton area. Luckily, members of the public captured video evidence and forwarded the footage to DA Caucus Members who will insist on an investigation.
Cllr Chauke has been the MMC for Community Safety since the previous Council term, clearly indicating that she is not nearly capable of ensuring discipline among EMPD officials.
During the remainder of this Ekurhuleni Council term, DA Caucus Community Safety Oversight Members will pursue all instances of ill-discipline and ensure that MMC Chauke is held accountable for her Department’s shortcomings.
