Advertisement Led To Murder: Emer-G-Med’s RV5 and RV9 responded to reports of a shooting incident on the R550 near Eikenhof, south of Johannesburg, on Wednesday, January 4 at 15:30. Paramedics arrived on the scene to find a large police presence. It was reported that the victim and his friend were told to meet a man from Alberton, regarding a vehicle that was advertised on a well known secondhand website. They arrived at the location and waited for a prolonged period. They were then phoned by the suspects and told to proceed to a second location. Upon their arrival, the victim and his friend were shot at several times.
The victim sustained multiple gunshot wounds; and on assessment showed no signs of life. According to the Heidelberg Volunteer Medics’s Facebook page, the bullets hit the driver at least four times. They tried to get away, but the vehicle backed up against a wall and the wheels started spinning. The car was still in that state when the police arrived; and the officer on the scene switched it off. The man was declared dead on scene and his friend taken to a nearby facility. The South African Police Services were at the scene to conduct a full crime scene investigation. The perpetrators are still at large. Emer-G-Med urges members of the public to be extremely vigilant and cautious, when meeting a unknown person to buy or sell used items. Preferably meet in a busy shopping centre or another public place with security cameras. Try not to carry a large sum of money; rather pay by EFT, PayPal or a similar method.
